Love of the out of doors makes weather an important part of your life. When you get to a certain age and the idea of going fishing with snow on the ground just does not offer any appeal, warm weather becomes very important if you like to fish.
In the fall of 2007 I was busy learning about boating and getting around the area. This fall I know enough to enjoy fishing a lot more. While my addiction to fishing is tempered by my love of photography, boating, and kayaking, it remains something I enjoy immensely.
Fishing is one of the things that first brought me to the area over forty year ago. It also turns out that fishing was one of the reasons we ended up picking Carteret County as our place to settle on the coast.
A great fishing trip is very hard to forget, not that anyone ever tries to forget one of those magical days.
The great thing about fishing is that fish are always optional for those of us who really enjoy being outside. My kids used to accuse me of catching the same pompano over and over when I fished on Hatteras Island. The charge was untrue, and it did even slow me one iota in my enjoyment of standing in the water and casting towards a fishy trough of water just off the beach.
Fishing is just one of the many great outdoor activities that are available here on the Crystal Coast. The only thing I do not like about late fall is we just do not have enough daylight. It is impossible to do everything that I would like to do on a beautiful fall day.
Still the only activity change from my perfect summer day that get eliminated is my early morning swim in the pool. The outdoor pool in our subdivision is a little cool by November.
My perfect fall day starts out with a bike ride or hike, followed by a couple of hours of kayaking/fishing on the river. After a quick sandwich for lunch, I might enjoy walking some of the area’s trails or a long hike on the beach.
A dream day would let me get in some more fishing but it is hard to do twice a day and get anything else done. I do like to relax with an evening walk which might even take us back to the beach.
A good finish to the day would have us cooking up some very fresh fish while we enjoy a nice local shrimp cocktail. November is a good month to dream. It is without doubt one of the best times of year with temperatures in the seventies during the day and low sixties at night.
Even the yards have slowed to the point that we are usually done mowing by the time November arrives. If this is not paradise, it is very close to it. To read more about the area and its usually great weather, check out this link.
